‘Atmosphere, groove, poetic’ | Interview with Debora Seffer

Describe your sound in three words

Atmosphere, groove, poetic

Tell us a bit about Let me Fly Away. What is the story behind this?

In a few words, « Get off my chains ». I wanted a more atmospheric music, with double-bass and percussions instead of drums, to let me music breathe and to let… me fly away. I wanted a keyboardist used to sing to and Thierry Eliez was just the musician I was looking for.

Which album song (if any) reflects you the most and why?

Not only one song – The whole album reflects my personality.

Artists and people who have influenced you?

Michael Brecker, Chick Corea and Bela Bartok.

If Debora Seffer’s music was a film, what film would it be?

Birdy, the wonderful Alan Parker film.

Should music as an art form always appeal to the listener?

It’s better to have an audience but it’s not the primary objective. For me, music reflects the artist. If not, it is just business.

What is the first album you remember hearing as a child?

John Coltrane « A love supreme »

What is not a crime, but what should be?

Play and Sing out of tune in Public

Thank you!
