Have you ever imagined how a song made from animal sounds would be? Let’s say from Koala sounds. Dysphemic is here to solve the mystery. Original and with an experimental touch, dubstep flavored electronika. Read our interview with the artist below!
Describe your sound in 3 words
Swampy, Gangster, Cinematic
The story behind Koala Bass is very interesting. Can you share a few things with us about it?
Yo it started out as a joke! During lockdown in Sydney I posted on facebook, what should I make bass out of? I started making videos of myself making bass out of the most voted suggestions and mostly everyone voted for animals and kept voting for them.
Kookaburra, whales, tasmanian devils etc…it ended up becoming a thing.
The peak of the series was absolutely the koala video. A friend that I highly respect from the music industry suggested that there was an opportunity to help Koala’s by supporting a charity.
So this is where the story leads to the release of ‘Koala Bass’, a track where all melodies are made from Koala sounds.
Along with the track is a sample pack of the Koala bass sounds I made in the video so people can make their own Koala track and Koala bass T shirts to help the cause.
Proceeds go to the Australian Koala Foundation to help protect Koala habitat and pass a Koala Protection Act that will change environment law forever.
Major music influences? Which album introduced you to Electronika?
These are my biggest and earliest influences that you can still hear echoing in my music.
Dr Dre, Squarepusher, Bloody fist records.
Later big influences would have to be Noisia & Seven Lions.
Most iconic drop you wish you have composed yourself?
Eternal Now by LSDream and Champagne Drip is incredible, the build up basically goes for 2 and a half minutes and is both a brain & heart melter.
What moment in your career are you proudest of?
It’s a tie between playing in a castle in Germany and playing on the back of a fire breathing dragon at Burningman.
Can you share something funny that happened during one of your DJ sets?
I played in east Oakland at an underground squat party. I think I set up on top of a wheely bin lol. Started out with a crowd full of candy ravers, as the set went on filled up with gangsters with balloons filled with nitrous oxide. Highlight of the show was making a goth dance to G Funk.
What is the story behind your name?
I was booked to play my first rave, needed a name, grabbed a dictionary and randomly chose one that sounded as gnarly as possible.
What isn’t a crime but should be?
Scott Morrison’s face.
Thank you!
