Describe your sound in 3 words
Futuristic, erotic, contrasts
Tell us a few things about Poison. What is the main idea behind it?
The main idea behind Poison is to emulate my mind mid night out, pushing myself to the limit in order to feel less and care less. An honest view into my past.
Which is your most personal and honest lyric?
I think the chorus is the most personal part of Poison. “I drink to let my pain wash away, I smoke to kill all these worries in my brain, but I end up so blurry I don’t know what to think” the realism of that lyric for me in my past is crazy. But in terms of my whole album there are songs which go 1000x deeper and more honest. Poison is a banger meant to hit you hard rather than invite you into my world.
Favourite rapper, lyricist and producer?
My favourite rapper is probably Yung Lean, favourite lyricist would be a tie between Lil Wayne and Kanye, favourite producer would be Gud formerly known as Yung Gud.
What does hip hop symbolise for you?
Hip Hop symbolises freedom of expression and an insight into artist’s worlds and while showcasing and bringing together different communities.
Do you think there is a true underground hip hop sound today?
Yes there is, artists such as Griselda etc who are spearheading the second coming of true underground hiphop. But in my case I make songs that dont necessarily always sit in the genre of HipHop. I feel like they will only be categorised in this way because of the colour of my skin.
The release artwork of the single which was created in collaboration with Woozie World is being offered as an NFT. Could blockchain technology disrupt the music industry?
It definitely could but probably in a positive way. My NFT was uploaded and is for sale on voice.com which is a non blockchain platform.
What is the story behind your name?
The last great Virgil Abloh commented on a past picture of mine with lots of wave emojis. Hence Billy Got Waves. I don’t think there’s anyone who can give you a status better than him to be honest.
