Croydon 2008. January, usually the coldest month in London. Deep wobble bass comes out of your car speakers. You exit the car, wait in the queue for a couple of minutes. It’s freezing. You get in. Now it’s terribly hot. The bass kicks you in the stomach. Jungle Juice. That’s the track name. Welcome!
Read our interview with the American artist below.
Describe your sound in three words
Ethereal, hard-hitting, psychedelic (is that 4 words? Lol)
Tell us a few things about your creative process. What’s the first thing you do when opening an empty project in your DAW?
I’ll usually jam out at the keyboard and come up with some cool chords & melodies if I’m making something more emotional/harmonic or drums if I’m doing something more bass-y. But I’ll definitely start with the drop most of the time!
If you had to choose one Synthesizer (analog or digital) which one would it be?
Putting me in a tough spot here! I’d say Diva because of how warm and organic it can feel but Serum is def a go to for sure.
Which track defined this dark side of Dubstep/Trap?
Oh dang there’s so many great tracks out there! I was always a huge Zeds Dead fan and their 2010 release Rude Boy was one of those tracks that got me into the genre & I feel shaped a lot of the music we hear today. But can’t leave this without a shoutout to Skrillex!
Your music is bass driven. Are you scared that the average listener may listen to your music on extremely low quality laptop internal speakers (or even worse on phone internal speakers)?
I mean that’s always a concern which I try to address in the mixing/mastering process so my music translates as best as possible in all forms of listening devices, but it’s not something that keeps me up at night 🙂
Do you have an artist that you would describe as a hidden gem that we should know about?
MM! I don’t know if I’d attribute Hidden to him but he’s definitely a gem, Mize is super tight
Favorite movie/series you watched during the quarantine?
I don’t watch a lot of TV but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was pretty insane
Future plans?
Release, release & release baby! Got a lot of material coming out the next few months which I’m super excited about. Some more melodic and some more bass driven! I’ve been aiming to make my music a bit more trippy as well so be prepared for some awesome ethereal weirdness 😊
Thank you!
