Sunny and the Black Pack is a 7-piece band from USA which sings covers of popular songs using their ‘Canvas’ approach. The main idea of a ‘canvas’ approach requires to step away from the usual way of doing covers and think of new artistic interpretations that reflects your personal character and aesthetics.
The song they chose to cover is an acoustic version of the traditional English carols ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’. I have always found this to be a slippery road because with that kind of songs you have the flexibility to create something really out of the box and authentic but simultaneously you have to deal with well-established versions, which people love and are used to listening.
The band played and they won. Their version of ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ is modern, playful with a soulful guitar strumming and an energetic vocal delivery. Enjoy below!
