An Interview with Yadam

• Describe your sound in 3 words

I’d say “Alternative Pop-Soul” is that good;) haha?

• Which are your major music influences?

I am greatly inspired by a mix of artist like James Blake, RY X, Banks, Lorde, Florence + the machine… They all have specific things that I feel have inspired me individually.

• What is your favorite album of the past year?

OMG, every time I hear new albums I like, I tell myself I know which Album I’ll recommend if anyone ever asked and now Im completely blank. For the moment, I am completely amazed by ARCA’s new album “KiCk i”.

• What is your creative process like? Do you like the idea of collaborating? Is songwriting a lonely process?

I write a lot alone, i usually hear a phrase or words that randomly lead my brain into a deep spiral of thoughts, and i have to write them down because if not i dont remember them afterwards.. i end up having some sort of poem.. then i just add a melody and boom.. New song. I also love collaborating and am currently looking for cool artists to collab and launch music with while I continue writing my next project. I find that when I do open myself to working with other artists I learn so much and write even faster. I’m really open to both ways of working, but in a group of ten im usually that one sad boy on the corner that feels more safe working alone, and then sharing his findings to the others. That’s changing though.’

• What would be your dream performance venue?

I don’t really have a dream performance venue, I just have the dream of being able to tour different venues of whatever size around Europe/Latin America and who knows where else?

• If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?

The fact that if you’re not signed to a big major your music has less chances to be put out there on playlists (at least in France) which is how many artist get streams today. Im really proud of having the listeners/streams I have because they’re 100% organic and not forced. 🙂 (But who wouldn’t like to be discovered by more people faster?)

• Which book should we read while listening to your music?

You shouldn’t read a book, you should either close your eyes, lay down, and start to remember the good and the bad things you’ve gone through, introspection.. or you should draw..I think my music has a cool vibe to draw too..at least i’ve seen/ heard of a few people doing so:)

• One last thing we should know about you?

If the world lets us, I will be having my first concert (outside of Paris, and of France) on 18th October in LONDON as the opening act for TORA on their tour:) So come check it out! it’s such a crazy opportunity and honor:)
