Carl Bagge’s performance on Reaching for The Sky is about as elegant as piano led jazz gets. He delivers some warm, jazzy intriguing chords and a steady, melancholic ballad groove, driven by double bassist Martin Höper and drummer Chris Montgomery, that gives vocalist Isabella Lundgren room to breathe. Her singing is strikingly clear, without the use of heavy effects to create an intimate atmosphere that feels like a live performance happening right in your living room, with Bagge’s subtle piano responses complementing her vocal delivery at every turn.
You might want to listen to this one with your better half. Just be careful though, something the memory of the music might end up outlasting the memory of the person you shared it with.
