Describe your sound in 3 words

Hybrid, cinematic and soulful.

Tell us about the inspiration behind “A Taste of Dystopia.” How did the idea for the song come about, and what influenced the unique atmosphere it carries?

”A Taste of Dystopia” started with a dark trap inspired beat that we had floating around.
Since we liked the spooky atmosphere of that first draft we decided to expand it with more influences, adding a “Mezzanine” inspired bassline, a grunge-like vocal melody by Alex and cinematic sound design made with Jenny’s voice.
We also added some jazzy guitar lines in the coda of the song because…why not?

The lyrics of the song were inspired by a day in the foggy English countryside and Dante Alighieri’s Lethe. Can you delve deeper into the thematic elements and symbolism incorporated in the lyrics?

The inspiration for this came from facing the dystopian period of the pandemic and the darkness it brought in our lives. In that period everything felt wrong and broken to a point we started feeling numb so we had the lyrical idea of Lethe, one of the rivers Dante talks about.
If you drink the water of the Lethe you lose your memory and you fall into oblivion.

If the music of TECHNOIR was a film, which film would that be?

The Fifth Element with a touch of Cowboy Bebop

What is the story behind your name?

We liked the sound “tech”, that stands for technology, and the french word “noir” because we always liked darkness. Then we remembered that’s the name of the Terminator club.

TECHNOIR was featured in some major festivals and clubs. Can you share something funny that happened during one of your live performances?

A few years ago we were invited to perform at Terminal Festival in Serbia and after our set we were invited to jam by Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai, one of the best bass players of all time. We ended up eating together one of the spiciest fish dishes we ever had!

Artists and people that have influenced you?

We always liked freethinkers in art and life.
Alex: Flying Lotus, Kurt Cobain, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Massive Attack, Radiohead, Alan Moore, Mike Mignola and Prince
Jennifer: Laura Mvula, Thom Yorke, Meshell Ndegeocello, Beyoncè, Ivano Fossati and David Attenborough

Are we on a slippery slope towards dystopia?

We definitely are, since we were tempted to answer this question using ChatGPT…
but we did not, we swear! 🙂

Thank you!
