Describe your sound in 3 words

Psychedelic sweet soul

Tell us a few things about your debut single Shepards Lullaby and your recently released album. What is the main idea behind it?

While we were on a roadtrip to Italy we listened to some tapes featuring contemporary sweet soul music in my car. The idea was born to record an album with the focus on a relaxed soundscape. We called up our good friends Max and Greg, who were immediately on board.
The defining aspect of our writing process is to create music by getting into a certain mood and not just arrangesongs that were already there. When we came up with ‚Shepards Lullaby‘, we were inspired by an acoustic illusion called Shepard’s Tone. It’s a tone that seems to get infinitely higher although it actually remains the same. We tried to translate this carousel-like cosmos into a song. In this sense, the lyrics reflect the moment when you are looking into a star-crowded universe and feel very small & insignificant . A child piano and a Juno 60 are the main ingredients, the salt and pepper to this psychedelic soup…

Your music can be characterised as psychedelic. Firstly, do you accept this label for your music? Also considering that this term is a bit abstract, what are the elements in your opinion that make a song “psychedelic”?

We do. As we love getting spaced-out by music we don’t think it’s a bad description at all. . Which artists lead the Neo-psychedelia sound nowadays?
Even I would describe our music as psychedelic Im not shure if I would call it Neo-Psychedelia. I think it’s always tough to talk about music genres, especially when it’s about your own music.

What is the story behind your name?

After every recording session, we went back to this house, where a 24-year-old cat named Theodor roams the halls. As he sort of became a part of the group, we tried to dive into his world for some of our songs and named the band after him.

If the music of Theodor was a book, which book would that be?

Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse

What isn’t a crime but should be?

To be a show-off.

What is the first album you remember hearing as a child?

Rob: Dark Side Of the Moon by Pink Floyd.
Greg: Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not by Arctic Monkeys
Lui: A Real Mother for Ya by Johnny „Guitar“ Watson
Max: Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones

Thank you!
