Describe your sound in 3 words

True to myself

Tell us a few things about Will She Shine. What is the main idea behind it?

Will She Shine is a composition that was written right after a heartbreak – It is full of deep sadness and a slight optimism. I usually compose when trying to capture a strong feeling or an experience I’ve had.

Recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship, Awarded with Excellence Scholarship by the Center for Jazz Studies, received the ‘John Coltrane Award’ for outstanding performers/composers/improvisers. What moment in your music journey so far are you proudest of?

While studying at the New School, in my senior year, I had the privilege of spending time with
master Hal Galper. Hal auditioned students for his quintet and I was lucky enough to get in. We were playing Hal’s music, with him on piano, every week. It was a musical experience that completely changed the way I listen/play music forever.

You scored music for two award-winning documentary films. How different, in terms of the creative process, is it to compose music soundtracks?

As I mentioned, I find composing as a tool of emotional expression. Scoring films is exactly that, adding the necessary technical knowledge I gained firstly by experiencing with it, and after
by studying it academically.

Favorite album of the past decade?

Ibrahim Maalouf – Kalthoum

Jazz music as a genre has been accused as music for snobs. Is jazz music elitist?

It’s a fair question. I think that listening to jazz is different from listening to more popular music. It requires some experience and getting used to the sound and “format” of the music. In my album, while being truthful to myself and my musical taste, I was trying to make the music and the sound of the album, more approachable for music fans from all genres. More communicative.

Favourite music related film?

Your biggest fear?

Not to be excited before a show
