Describe your sound in three words
Scriptures to solos.
The track is a blend of Jazz and Hip Hop where sax improvisations meet rap. Tell us a song with a similar concept you wish you had composed yourselves.
Anyone who knows me wants me to shut up about this song, but For Free by Kendrick Lamar has to go down as one of my biggest inspirations. I’m very thankful for k dot, Kamasi, Glasper, Terrace Martin, soundwav and that whole team for connecting the dots in the mainstream. It definitely opened some doors for us.
Is improvisation a talent or a skill?
I have to say that it’s mostly a learned skill. Why? Because I used to suck at improvising. And it was something I had to learn from trial and error. I was almost always the worst improviser in the groups that I play in. Still am!
Favorite saxophonist/Rapper?
Favorite saxophonist? Jackie McLean. Favorite Rapper? Andre 3000
How do you relate to the music scene of Singapore? And which city do you think is the world capital of music?
To be honest, I’ve had a rocky relationship with Singapore’s music scene. I’ve never felt like I truly connected with anyone there. But to be even more honest, I haven’t put the work in to find out what the scene is really like. World capital of music? I don’t think there is one.
Your music is really danceable. In which place or state of mind do you imagine people might listen to your music?
You ever seen Thom Yorke dance? That.
One thing that not many people know about you…
uh……
Thank you!
