Next time you are walking on the metro (any metro in any city), you might want to pay (more) attention to the artist beside you who is filling the space with notes. This post is about the imaginative collaboration of Mr. Reed who is a singer, drummer, writer and performer and The Side Project band who is a saxophone quartet from Brooklyn, first met in the NYC subway and jammed together. Later on, the collaboration evolved to a new project where the band intervened gently to one of Mr. Reeds’ acapella songs, titled ‘We’ve got power’ adding some saxophone quartet, bass and drums flavour. Mr. Reed’s singing is smooth, placed in a chilled and very realistic background but the theme of the song is no joke. Police brutality and the struggles but also the persistence of the Black community are the themes at the forefront, the lyrics are speaking the truth and its vibe utterly addictive. The Side Project deserves praising not only for their great idea in bringing this project to life but also for their lovely work in the arrangement which is enriching the song with beautiful harmony. Make sure to check the rest of their music too.

Song Lyrics (so you can sing along and practice!
We’ve got power
for every hour
We’re gonna make it,
We’ll hold on
We’ve got power
for every hour
We’re gonna make it,
We’ll hold on (Hold on, Hold on, Hold on, Hold on,….Hold on
Hold on, Hold on….Hold on)
Verse 1
There’s a momma in a city and the city isn’t pretty
Cuz her husband’s coming home real late,
There’s a wound in their heart,
That is tearing them apart,
That they know they just can’t escape
Because their son went missin,
While he was road trippin
And on the news they said she he won’t make…
It to another day of livin,
Because some cops went and killed him,
But they hold onto their faith
Pre-chorus
And even though they’ll say we’re not strong
We know that we’ve got to hold on
Chorus
We’ve got power
for every hour
We’re gonna make it,
We’ll hold on
We’ve got power
for every hour
We’re gonna make it,
We’ll hold on
Hold on, Hold on, Hold on, Hold on, Hold on….
Hold on, Hold on, Hold on!!!!

Verse 2
So he jumps into his car,
Looking out into the stars,
Will he kill a man today? (Yeah!)
But at the end of the day,
He knows who he is
Killing causes so much pain,
And now he has realised,
Those two men just ain’t the same,
So he gets down on his knees as the new flash reads:
“The cops have been found not guilty!”
Pre-chorus
And even though they’ll say we’re not strong
We know that we’ve got to hold on
Chorus
We’ve got power
for every hour
We’re gonna make it,
We’ll hold on
We’ve got power
for every hour
We’re gonna make it,
We’ll hold on
Hold on, Hold on, Hold on, Hold on, Hold on….
Hold on, Hold on, Hold on!!!!
