Siphephelo Ndlovu establish himself with ‘Mina Nawe’, a piano driven Soul gem, where its ethereal sound blends neatly in the lush and harmony-rich arrangement.
- Please introduce yourself
My name is Siphephelo Ndlovu (also know as The SN Project), and I’m a South African Pianist, Vocalist, Composer and Arranger.
- Who is your favourite Pianist?
My favourite pianist is, without a doubt, Keith Jarrett – THE MASTER!
- Describe your sound in 3 words
Jazz meets Tribal.
- What do you enjoy most? Writing music or performing your music live?
Writing music can be inspiring, and fulfilling – but nothing compares to finally performing and sharing that piece of work.
- What would be your dream performance venue?
As a kid I saw a DVD of Michael Buble singing live at Madison Square Garden, and that blew my mind. That venue is definitely at the top of my list.
- If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?
I wish there was more sense of community in the industry. There’s too much competitiveness at times and we forget about the sense of community as well as the human aspect that is involved in arts-making. So if there was anything I could change it would be to eliminate the idea that one artist has to be better than the other in order to succeed – both artists can succeed in their own right. Music is about expression of culture, worship, love, loss and many more things; and it will exist long after each of us is gone – it’s bigger than all of us.
- Do you like the idea of collaborating? Is songwriting a lonely procedure?
I love collaborating! Songwriting can be lonely but I think sometimes that’s what is needed – time to yourself in your own mind is vital. Songwriting challenges me to face some harsh truths about myself and whatever I have going on at that moment, essentially helping me in the long-run. Then sometimes it is exciting to collaborate with another individual as it brings a different perspective – music has always been about community and sharing artistic moments is very fulfilling.
- One last thing we should know about you?
I love Fashion and I would love to be involved in it in some way.
- Thanks Siphephelo Ndlovu!
