Hallan – Solomon [Review]

Solomon starts with this disco flavoured groove filled with cool percussion layers, but it only takes a few seconds to get the whole picture. Right at the core is the guitar riff, playful, solid, simple yet totally effective, doubled up by a fat synth line that fills out the frequency spectrum delivering some sweet post punk aesthetics.

The vocals go through a chain of effects and cut straight to the point, broken up by some cool spoken-word bits and a vocal hook that lifts the chorus. Over a warmly saturated production buzzing with energy, it genuinely makes you want to start moving from the first second to the last.

As lead singer Conor Clements explains;

“Solomon felt like the right song to introduce the album because it brings together many different sides of Hallan: the urgency of our older post-punk sound, the dance-driven elements we’ve come to love, and the historical imagery and themes that run through the record. It feels like a bridge between where the band has been and where we’re going.

“The song draws on the story of King Solomon and his famous judgement to look at how we process news and information today. It asks whether taking more time to reflect, rather than immediately reacting, might help us find something closer to the truth.”

Hallan will release their debut album ‘What’s a Heaven For?’ on 29th January 2027, with UK and European tour dates set to be announced imminently.
