Mat Elliott hits a sweet spot on Out of Your Hands, a track defined by a laidback groove that blends neo-soul with sharp pop sensibilities. It’s synth-heavy from the jump, opening with a lead riff and driven by warm, detuned ethereal chords pulsing in 8th notes. There’s even a standout synth improv section later on that takes a nice detour into a more jazzy territory. Elliott’s vocals sound raw and honest here, especially as he navigates the lyrical theme of outgrowing a dead-end relationship and that sharp realization of emotional jetlag after years of ignored red flags.
