Mary Middlefield – Milk [Review]

Milk in the fridge can be a soothing comfort. A warm drink you relate to your most peaceful moments. An underrated simple pleasure in life. But eventually, it can turn sour and it can be all the things you’re trying to escape. Mary Middlefield’s Milk begins with a organic organ layer that beautifully supports the long, evocative vocal line. The chorus builds beautifully with pizzicato strings and mellow woodwinds before a lush, full-bodied string section takes over creating a melody that feels deeply welcoming yet carries a bittersweet edge. If you’re around, be sure to catch her live at Paper Dress Vintage on 8 April (or any other date from her upcoming tour).
