Describe your sound in 3 words

Hard to say. Horny, sad and epic feels pretty on point.

Tell us a few things about Young and Dumb. What is the main idea behind it?

The main idea behind the song was to have an angry/sad rock banger with lots colors. We wanted it to feel very intense and in line with the lyrics, which I think we achieved.

The song’s about feeling used, naive, abused and angry at yourself for letting people take advantage of you. It’s the last song we made for my upcoming EP.

How does “Young and Dumb” reflect your personal experiences or emotions?

Every line in the song is something I have lived through or felt. I try to be honest and tell the truth when I write. The truth might be ugly more often than not, but I prefer to stay earnest and sincere through my craft.

Your most honest and personal lyric?

There are a lot to pick and chose from… Right now I’d go with ‘I’m sexless and I’m not loved’

Artists and people that have influenced you?

Radiohead and Jeff Buckley are probably the artists that I reference the most in my work ! The people around me who influence me the most are probably my collaborators, friends and my family.

A song that makes your heart beat faster?

I’ve been listening to the Last Shadow Puppets a lot recently. ‘Bad Habits’ is my favorite song.

If the music of Mary Middlefield was a film, which film would that be?

That’s a hard one. Sofia Coppola’s ‘Lost in translation’ maybe. I recently saw Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Poor Things’. The film really moved me. Bella Baxter’s journey and encounters had some aspects I really related to.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

My younger self really needed to trust herself more. I think I’d tell her to stop listening to people who hurt her and do thinks the way she would like to.

Thank you!
