Nest of Giants, the new single by the London based duet Moonfish, is a two-part, trippy production featuring warmly saturated synth lines conversing with a moody bassline and an intriguing beat. Read our discussion with the band below!

Describe your sound in 3 words

Mesmerizing, Groovy, Dreamy

Tell us a few things about your new single Nest of Giants. What is the main idea behind it?

Iceland, the magical island in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, is also known to be called “nest of giants”.
This tune was composed having in mind the unique and enchanting landscapes and the feeling of being on the moon or on a faraway planet.
It’s the fourth track we have released and it’s part of a series of singles which have been our first musical steps as a duo. Some new music is going to be released at some point soon!

Can you describe how your sound has evolved since the release of your first piano-centric single, “Drop of Water,” three years ago?

Our sound kept its main core throughout all the singles’ releases. We are fascinated by the idea of combining acoustic and electronic elements. With the last two singles, we tried to explore a different approach, starting from a beat/groove instead of opting for a more “slow burn” melodic approach.

How did the two of you meet and start making music together?

We met in London, where we both live, playing/jamming in various bands before actually start playing as a duo. We immediately felt a strong musical connection and as soon as we played together it was clear that we would had a lot of fun arranging, composing and exploring the duo’s possibilities.

Artists and people that have influenced you?

Our main influences include Thom Yorke, Aaron Parks, Kneebody, The Comet is Coming, Kiasmos…

If the music of Moonfish was a film, which film would that be?

Probably a sci-fi movie!

What is the story behind your name?

We both love the sea and the moon’s grace… We then found out that Moonfish is an actual fish, it’s beautiful and it’s the only one having warm blood!

Would you reveal each other’s funny habits?

Acting various stereotypical characters and inventing nonsense ways to reply to people… Hard to describe it, it would be much easier to understand it by experiencing it!

Thank you!
