‘Warm. DIY. Organic’ | Interview with T. Harding x Ancona

T. Harding teams up with Ancona, mixing up a pumping dance beat with a burning hot synth bass line. The result in an epic electronic jam. Dance the night away!

Describe your sound in 3 words.

Warm. DIY. Organic

Tell us a few things about trainbeat.wav. What is the story behind it?

We were heading home from a music retreat with some friends from our artist collective, Check Leopard. Exhausted and hungover, we challenged ourselves to make one last thing on the train journey home. Passing files back and forth, we came up with this rough beatsy jam which reflects the spirit with which it was made

Which is the best album of the past 5 years we should listen to while travelling from Manchester to London

NO THANKYOU – Little Simz

Trainbeat.wav is characterised by its exciting groove. What would be the most iconic drop you wish you had composed yourself.

Bahia – Jarami

What made you gravitate towards electronica?

Parents and older siblings got us into electronic music in every form, from Camo & Krooked to Moby. At school we started messing around with music-making software – starting with Nanostudio on the iPhone. It was £14 at the time and felt like a massive investment. Years later and we were obsessed with listening to and making exciting, human-sounding electronic music, and set up the Check Leopard label/collective as a platform to do just that.

Favourite music related film?

We’re both big fans of The Sound of Metal – from its cinematography to performances, to its crazy innovative use of sound design. Would recommend! Whiplash is also a classic.

What isn’t a crime but should be?

Not streaming trainbeat.wav… 😉

What’s next for you?

We’ve got a number of exciting projects in the pipeline!

T. Harding is scoring a dark, brooding theme for a short film which will be released mid-2023.
Ancona is working on a spoken word project, with plans to release music from it later this year. It will really resonate with fans Jungle, For Those I love and Real Lies.
Both our own musical projects aside, we are continuing to showcase new and exciting artists through Check Leopard – most recently a duo called bxu, they make spoken word-DnB about relationships and blurred memories

Thank you!
