I remember the first time I had the chance to watch GoGo Penguin live back in 2015 at Koko (which by the way opened again after overcoming a fire, a water damage and a pandemic) in Camden Town in London. Back then everyone was talking about the upcoming, mercury prize nominated uk trio as the band that blends a signature minimal piano sound with tight jazzy grooves and electronic elements. Ascent is the first single in this new era of the piano trio with their new drummer Jon Scott. The track has a hypnotic sound, well structured repetitive piano patterns that developed in a delightful way supported by a steady, beautifully balanced rhythm section. Enjoy below!
