“fulgurance, melodic, retro” | Interview with Mercury 82

Melodies in a Harpsichord that have a Baroque period vibe and hard synth arpeggios, all wrapped in a Darksynth package. Straight up French Touch banger. Read our discussion with the producer below.

Describe your sound in three words

fulgurance, melodic, retro.

Tell us a few things about your new 3 track EP Hubris. What is the main idea behind it?

The idea was to make a meeting between baroque music, Synthwave, and electronic music more globally.
I started by composing Nocturne, in a desire to make live a dirty bass, and I brought some contrast with baroque sounds,
and some melancholic melodies. The rest came naturally

Would it be safe to assume that Justice is one of your main influences? Tell us the artists and people who have influenced and inspired you?

I started music because of Justice, so you could say they have a “very slight” influence!
I’m very inspired by the whole French Touch 2.0 era, for me it’s the time I fell in love with electronic music.
With Justice, SebastiAn, Teenage Bad Girl, Data, Danger…
I’m trying to mix all of this with Synthwave, I sure haven’t found the right recipe yet, but I’m working on it.

If you had to choose one Synthesizer (analog or digital) which one would it be?

U-he Diva, of course!

‘From the Renaissance to electronic music there is only Hubris. If a Time Machine Could Take You Anywhere for One Day, When/Where Would You Go?

In the 90’s, when my mom was pushing me to go to music school, but I was too dumb to understand how lucky I was, so I hung out with my buddies.

Do you have an artist in the electronic scene that you would describe as a hidden gem that we should know about?

Wait, I look in my spotify likes …. Clown Core maybe ?

What is the story behind your name?

It was the time when I was looking for a name, and reading Women by Bukowksi ” …I opened the door, closed the door and walked to my 1962 Mercury Comet…” …humm… Mercury is cool ! And “82” is for the 80’s, and to better find my profile too, haha

Who/what is your nemesis?

It’s when my friend (and music producer) Dykore comes to my place in the evening with 6 or 7 liters of beer, and he tells me “Yeah, don’t worry, I won’t stay long”.

Thank you!
