‘Lush synthesizers and dust’ | Interview with The Diasonics

Calling all crate diggers! Larks by The Diasonics is the kind of hidden gem you’ve been searching for, a brand new track that perfectly captures the rare groove sound, featuring a no-word vocal layer, sweet percussion, and a beautiful acoustic drum beat, all laid over dreamy sounds and a driving bass guitar.

Describe your sound in 3 words

DANIIL (Guitar) – Lush synthesizers and dust.
Anton (Drums) Groovy, Funky, Nostalgia

Tell us a few things about ‘Larks’. What is the story behind the track?

DANIIL (Guitar) – Synthesizers and female vocalises have appeared in places, and the instrument parts are more polished.
ANTON (DRUMS) This track is interesting to me as a drummer also because I’m constantly coming up with something new for the drum part: in the hi-hat, the kick drum, the fills, the dynamics. At almost every show and every rehearsal. I don’t know why. Maybe I’m searching for the perfect version, or maybe I just play it by mood. And yes, I think it’s one of the very first new tracks we started creating after finishing our first album.

Given that your sound is largely instrumental, the inclusion of Diana Greb’s vocal line is a notable development. How did this new element come about?

ANTON (DRUMS) Diana is our friend, a musician, and someone close to the band. So it came about naturally that we made a few compositions together with her.

Your debut album, Origin of Forms, was a critical success. How does your upcoming second album, Ornithology, build on that foundation? Can you tell us how your sound has evolved since your last release?

KAMIL (KEYS) What it has in common with the first album is its conceptual nature: in both albums, the tracks are linked by a common plot and idea. What’s new: more use of synths, more carefully thought-out instrumentation, and less ‘noir’ and trip-hop in the arrangements.

Your favorite most trippy mind blending groove drop you wish you had composed yourselves?

ANTON (DRUMS)- Cissy Strut by The Meters

Artists and people that have influenced you?

Daniel (GUITAR) Menahan Street Band, Khruangbin, Shawn Lee, El Michaels Affair, Daft Punk, Moby, Sektor Gaza, and 100+ more.
Kamil(Keys) Eduard Artemyev, Jethro Tull, Tricky, Viktor Pelevin, and yes, another +100500 unexpected inspirations.
Anton (Drums) All the music I’ve ever listened to that has drums. Especially if it doesn’t have a straight four-on-the-floor kick drum and especially if the drums are more or less live.

In which place or state of mind do you imagine people might listen to your music?

KAMIL (keys) :On long winter evenings with a cup of cocoa by the window, on fresh summer mornings by a tent in the woods, during a dance battle in the middle of the street… yeah, lots of options…

If the music of The Diasonics was a film, which film would that be?

ANTON (DRUMS) A non-linear plot, a charismatic team of pros, rhythmic editing, a stylish visual presentation—costumes, lighting, music.

Thank you!
