Quartet After Nations recently offered a glimpse of their new material. Now, we are fortunate enough to listen to their full 8-track album, aptly titled Surface | Essence.
Their sound is not easy to put under a specific genre: imagine an intense fusion of trance-inducing metal and expanding post-rock with a beautiful dark vibe that never descends into cliches. And it’s remarkable how they overcome the inherent challenge of instrumental music, keeping listeners engaged through their unconventional guitar riffs, expansive dynamic shifts, and constant groove changes.
At the heart of Surface | Essence are the brilliantly chaotic spacey landscapes driven by the guitars which pass through numerous effect pedals. The entire album feels really cohesive, with each track revealing a new angle. Give it the respect it deserves: this 35-minute journey is meant to be absorbed in one sitting.
After Nations is a band that truly begs to be witnessed live. Their music is tremendously atmospheric, leaving you to wonder how such a polished, saturated sound and skilled performance could possibly be replicated in a live setting. Enough said, don’t just take our word for it, hit play and discover it for yourself!
