‘smooth like butter’ | Interview with ARIA

Straight up, the beat is a tidal wave, and when you hear those verses, it’s a pure Splash!.

Describe your sound in 3 words

smooth like butter

That moment of spilling water and feeling a wave of inspiration is pretty unique. Can you walk us through exactly what was going through your mind in that split second?

Honestly speaking it was probably because I was so locked in on the beat. I wrote some of the verses first and then I started using the word splash in the chorus with way more fluff added on. Once we heard just the word splash by itself after we shifted the pitch, we thought it was so dope that we started working around it.

Does your dedication to staying hydrated somehow mirror your dedication to your craft?

In all seriousness I actually do drink a LOT of water. I think a good rap flow can mirror water in a way with how it’s supposed to all come together even when the tempo switches up. It’s just like more or less pressure

For which lyric you are most proud of?

Definitely the lyrics in the beginning of both the verses that are in Farsi. I’ve always wanted to incorporate some Farsi into my lyrics with my persian heritage and this sounded like a great place to start.

What does hip hop symbolize in your opinion?

Freedom to create without any boundaries or need for validation. It’s all about being as great as you can while respecting the other greats who came before you

Favorite rapper/lyricist/producer?

I can’t ever keep a solid pick but right now I’ll go Biggie. Favorite producer probably Timbaland Kanye or Dr Dre

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Don’t measure your own success based on others. Stay locked in. Listen to yourself more.

When was the last time you danced?

Do lap dances count?

Thank you!
