In an preview of his forthcoming debut album, prolific producer Slackin Beats drops “Full Mind,” a mood-setting track, where creatively manipulated vocal layers intertwine with a euphoric house beat—the kind that makes you crave slow-motion shots and endless summer nights. Describe your sound in 3 words
Electronic, Alternative & Melancholic.
How did the concept of dreams, self-image, and the search for a “resting mind” inspire the lyrics and overall atmosphere of “Full Mind”?
The whole album is about dreams and what you’re able to achieve if you set your mind to it. But it’s also about accepting where you are in life and being OK with it. I think that’s why I made the synths dreamy and pretty but the drums rough and distorted. Nothing should be perfect.
Full Mind feels really euphoric and dance-inducing. In which place or state of mind do you imagine people might listen to your music?
Definitely at home, or outside while doing something else. I kind of want people to think of something (or someone else) while listening to this track.
You’ve got an extensive back catalogue as a producer, but your debut album is just about to drop. Tell us a bit about it!
The album will be released later this year and it features a lot of Diaspora artists. Most of them are from Malmö, but also from Stockholm, London and LA. This album will showcase a more experimental sound with a lot of Bosnian influences.
What made you gravitate towards electronika?
I’ve always been attached to a melancholic, softer sound. But I still like to apply that sound to a club setting with breaks and distorted sounds.
Artists and people that have influenced you?
Definitely friends and artist from my hometown Malmö. Mod Sens being one of them.
If the music of Slackin Beats was a film, which film would that be?
Wall-E
What is the story behind your name?
It was supposed to be Stackin Beats in the beginning because I stacked up so many tracks. Lol. But it was more fitting with Slackin Beats because I never finished the tracks. And it suits my sound better 🙂
