‘Agressive, Melodic, Tight’ | Interview with Dschohn E.

Ready for a trip to a dystopian future? ‘Sub Lime,’ off Dschohn E.’s ‘Journey’ album, delivers just that, blending retro-infused synths into a compellingly dark cinematic experience. Catch our discussion with the artist below!

Describe your sound in 3 words

Agressive, Melodic, Tight

Could you walk us through the genesis of Sub Lime?

The first abstract melodic loops and arrangement I created in March 2024. Then I was stuck in the same arrangement for a long time, until this spring. After a long holiday without making music I was in the right mood to bring in some more interesting variations to finally finish the song.

Which is your go to synth (analog or digital) when you start a new project?

Xfer Serum

Artist and people that have influenced you?

Prodigy, Vitalic, Modeselektor and many DnB artists like Kemal, Bad Company, Corrupt Souls and many more…

How do you relate to the music scene of Switzerland?

Not at all. I’m an introvert bedroom producer who doesn’t like hustle and bustle.

Should music as a form of art always challenge the listener?

Absolutely! There should always be unpredictable twists and turns and experimental elements in music.

If the music of Dschohn E. was a film, which film would that be?

Hard to say. As my music ranges through many different genres it doesn’t fit into one movie. It would sure be something dystopian with machines or AI.
Probably Matrix.

What isn’t a crime but should be?

Many presidents and rich people are criminals, but aren’t sentenced.

Thank you!
