Describe your sound in 3 words
ambient, cinematic, addictive
Tell us a few things about lipstain. What is the main idea behind it?
The main idea behind the song is about self worth, realising that it’s okay to want to feel valued and that your emotions in any capacity is valid. I wanted to write a song to empower women like myself that are often having to sacrifice their boundaries just because they are afraid of the consequences of confrontation and realising your worth.
Your most honest and personal lyric?
I think my most honest and personal lyric is from an unreleased song I have written called ‘siren’s interlude’ which I plan to release sometime in december and it is ‘i’m the oldest daughter, so I ought to be stronger’ written about dealing with the loss of my grandmother earlier this year, based from a journal entry I did earlier this year.’
Artists and people that have influenced you?
I have been influenced by many artists, but I think I owe a lot of my artistry to artists like Donna Summer, The Weeknd, Troye Sivan, Disclosure in terms of how I approach music sonically, these artists to me make me want curate music that feels out of this world, like it did for me growing up. I also look up to artists like BTS and Beyoncè that have been able to be vulnerable within their music and their fans through both music and performance, and I hope to do the same someday.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
To stop being so scared and afraid of being yourself, I dealt with having to really suppress myself during my teen years, music was really my only outlet where I felt i could be heard without being judged sometimes and I wish I would have not been scared to express myself a lot more, and to believe in myself a lot more.
If the music of Janaè Saint Prix was a film, which film would that be?
thats a hard one, but I think my music would suit movies like, everything everywhere all at once or doctor strange multiverse of madness, just because i think some of the songs I have out now would suit an the versatility that ranges in sci fi/action and fantasy genres likes these films,
If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?
probably the ‘entry level’ years of the music industry, think for independent artists especially its hard to recognize if your on the right path or not, especially right now with the digital age where we’re putting so much money into our art and music that we won’t really see an immediate return on in years to come depending on your situation, i would change the systems in place so up and coming artists can find it easier to accelerate their careers artistically and financially.
A song that makes your heart beat faster?
Most likely ‘ Butterfly : Prologue Mix’ by BTS, that song just has so much nostalgia behind it for me, at a time where I felt so alone listening to this made feel like i was protected and loved, so it’s nice to listen to this on my commutes home from my late night shift, just to remind myself that i’m loved and protected, that no matter what happens I’ll be okay.
Thank you!
