Describe your sound in 3 words:

Moody, eclectic, cinematic

Tell us a few things about your solo four track EP ‘du er du er’. What is the story behind it?

I’ve been meaning to create a more personal piece of work as well as experimenting with vocals. I could do both with sampling the vocals of my family and friends, so creating the title track ‘du er du er’ with sampling my mother singing a children’s song led the way for the rest of the tracks.

Your music is electronic driven but still, you blend many organic/acoustic elements in it. What is your creative process like?

It varies but among different techniques I have two methods a use a lot.
1: I start collecting sounds I like (sampling sounds from video games Burial-style, field recordings, go through sample packs, sample sports sounds from YouTube) and make beats with them. Then I start improvising with keys, bass or acoustic guitar on top and slowly I have a sound world I explore and dig deeper into.
2: I compose a piece of instrumental acoustic music. It could be solo piano or chamber music for small ensemble (piano trio, solo violin, brass trio etc.) and then I start messing around with my own music. It gives me the chance to experience my own composition in a different perspective and maintains some sort of organic quality.

Which is your go to synth when you start a new project?

ProTools stock vst ‘Vacuum’ and my ‘Nord Stage 3’. Would love to get to know a Buchla or a Prophet but my bank account not so much!

Your 5 favourite electronic albums of all time?

Kraftwerk – Computerworld, Daft Punk – Discovery, Burial – Untrue, Jackson & His Computerband – Smash, Todd Terje – It’s Album Time.
Special mention: Else Marie Pade – Pade: Electronic Music,
Kelly Lee Owens – Inner Song

What do you love/hate about Copenhagen?

I love the biking, the jazz scene, the summer and the people among lots of things.
I hate the gentrification of certain areas.

If the music of Marcus Elkjer was a book, which book would that be?

Tough one to answer without sounding like a wannabe aficionado. Hopefully ‘Grimm’s Fairy Tales’ with the at times cinematic sound world.

Your sound has nostalgia elements. If a Time Machine could take you anywhere for a day, where would you go?

100-110 years back in time in order to understand or at last see the repercussions of a World War and to experience Paris in the early 20th century.

100 years forward in time to see, how good/bad we have managed to treat the planet and how far technological solutions have taken us. Curious to see if living on other planets is a fully integrated part of human life.

Thank you!
