Describe your sound in 3 words
Dreamy, Jazzy, Hopeful
Tell us a few things about About last night (still dreaming). What is the main idea behind it?
About last night is one of those songs that came together in one afternoon. SBSTN was living in Berlin for a few months and we would meet in my studio every now and then to write demos together. As soon as I played the first chords, I could hear him shout “yesss!” from the couch area and next moment he was standing next to me and came up with this beautiful melody and words. For us, this song is about experiencing things for the first time and that dreamlike feeling that remains the day after.”
How does “About Last Night (Still Dreaming)” fit into the broader musical journey or themes explored in your discography?
One of my first EP’s was called “Daydreams”. So i guess the topic of dreaming and drifting away resurfaced with that release. I especially love how the UK Garage beat and the jazzy piano blend together. I’ve always been striving to incorporate my background as a jazz musician more into my electronic releases and am really happy about how it turned out in About last night (still dreaming).
What made you gravitate towards electronika?
That’s not a decision I made on purpose, rather than something that just happened. In general I adore how electronica enables the incorporation of multiple layers and dimensions within a track, fostering deep introspection. But besides that I think it just reflected the mood we had when we entered the studio that day and we sticked with it.
Artists and people that have influenced you?
Bonobo, George Fitzgerald, Four Set, Caribou, Fred Again, Kiasmos
A song you would pay to hear for the first time again?
I can actually find a lot of pleasure in hearing songs again and again.
In which place or state of mind do you imagine people might listen to your music?
I called my label “Music for Dancing, Reading + Creativity”. Beside the ironic hint on playlisting mechanisms I think I somehow create music for that strange between home and dance floor.
What do you love/hate about Berlin?
I love the international music scene here. So many open stages, concerts, showcases you can go to, connect and get inspired.
What isn’t a crime but should be?
Eating popcorn in a quiet arthouse movie
Thank you!
