Describe your sound in 3 words

Dark electro rock

Tell us a few things about Scientific. What is the main idea behind it?

I wrote ‘Scientific’ after watching a documentary called ‘Three Identical Strangers’, which is about triplet brothers who were seperated at birth for some social experiment. The results of that experiemnt were never disclosed but the effect it had on the brothers was devestating and it made me think about how cruel it is that some people’s fate is decided by other people who can literally destroy one’s life without ever being held accountable for it.

The track immerses listeners in a dystopian landscape. What inspired the dystopian theme, and how did you use musical elements to convey this futuristic yet unsettling atmosphere?

That’s true. As said, it was inspired by the documentary I mentioned. I think my voice has a darkness quality to it so it really fits with the overall theme of ‘Scientific’and the composition just ended up being quite dark and haunting and we worked on the production and arrangement in order for it to fit the mood of the track and its lyrics.

Artists and people that have influenced you?

Artists that influenced me, there are many. Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Interpol, The National, Suede, Placebo, The Killers to name a few.
As for people that influenced me, my dad always seemed to have done things his own way and that’s something I really respect.

A song you would pay to hear for the first time again?

Anything by Depeche Mode (preferably from their ‘Black Celebration’ album onwards)

What do you love/hate about London?

I love London’s music scene (that’s what brought me here after all). I also love its multiculturalism. People from all over the world live in this city, bringing their own culture and I think that makes it quite an interesting place to live in.

What is the story behind your name?

Well, the band’s guitarist at the time and myself (it was quite a while ago) sat and tried to come up with names. Every time we came up with something, we checked it up and it was already taken. Secret Cameras sounded cool and appropriate for our sound and it wasn’t taken so we chose it.

Thank you!
