Describe your sound in 3 words
Actually really good
Tell us a few things about ‘I Live For You’. What is the main idea behind it?
There’s no real main idea, and the words are pretty ambiguous. It’s more about conveying an abstraction and mood. Music carries a lot of meaning under the surface that can’t be properly articulated, that’s where the music video comes handy – we can visually represent the mood of the track while retaining a level of obscurity. Everyone’s interpretation is right for them.
Starting your musical journey in high school and releasing your debut album “Place LP” in 2021, how has the band’s sound evolved since then, especially with the release of your latest album, “White Dots”?
Place LP is a psych-rock album in a pretty traditional sense, White Dots is much more dynamic and we’ve branched out into a lot more genres like jazz and ambient electronic music.
Can you share the inspiration behind the name “Liminal” and how it reflects the band’s identity or music style?
Liminal describes an ‘in between state’ – this could be an abstract or physical thing, and we like to play with this idea musically/conceptually.
Artists and people that have influenced you?
There’s some influence from a lot of the bigger acts like King Gizzard and Tame Impala that got us into the psych-rock band format, but it goes through a filter during the production process. Aphex Twin, Portishead, Boards of Canada and Delia Derbyshire are all influences tied to how we mix and approach putting the final track together.
A song you would pay to hear for the first time again?
Robot Stop
Do you have an artist that you would describe as a hidden gem that we should know about?
We love Headache.
What does success mean for you going forward?
Basically, to make what we do sustainable.
Thank you!
