Describe your sound in 3 words

Uplifting, groovy, electrifying

Tell us a few things about Align Me. What inspired the collaboration, and how did the creative process unfold?

The song Align Me started as a little synth riff/instrumental jam that I was working on alone, and then I thought to reach out to my friend Ash Petti (Pretty Pistil) to collaborate for vocals. She was immediately drawn to the track, and she sent me back a voice memo with the melody that would become the chorus later on. I was very stoked on it, and so we ended up doing a full collaboration on that song.

Artists and people that have influenced you?

There are so many musicians and people that influenced my work but here I’d like to mention: Thom Yorke, Moderat, Talking Heads, Interpol, Justice, Mr Oizo, Johann-Sebastian Bach (best musician of all times), Sirisumo…

You mentioned your plans for a weekly series of Instagram reels where you deconstruct your song-creation process. What motivated you to share this aspect of your work, and what do you hope your audience gains from these insights?

I recently learned video editing, and I’ve been having a blasting creating these little reels. What motivated me initially was the fact that they’re usually around 1 minute long, and it’s a great way to put down some musical ideas without too much pressure to finish an entire track. It’s like a blank canvas, some ideas will become full-fledged songs, and others just little snippets to showcase my musicality and my sonic research. I hope to reach a bigger audience with those, it’s a fun journey!

In which place or state of mind do you imagine people might listen to your music?

All of my songs have a strong sense of groove, and I always try to dance to them so I hope people can do the same! It’s meant to uplift, to put you in a good mood, but also being quite dreamy at the same time and meant for inspiration, for an inner journey. Most of my lyrics are anchored in spirituality, or self-development, this is the state of mind I imagine people being in when they listen.

As you plan to tour solo in your camper van across America, what challenges do you anticipate in taking on the entire production process yourself, from arrangement to live performance?

I’m honestly too scared about the production side of things – these days you can do so much with little gear: I could just bring my laptop, turntables, a guitar and a keyboard and that would be enough to have a great time and throw a little party. What might be more difficult are all the other aspects, that I usually dread: organizing the tour, booking the right clubs or bars, communicating about the shows etc. I can’t wait to have a manager for these things but in the meantime I’ll just take on all the jobs myself, seems to be what you have to do as a musician in 2024!

Considering your diverse musical interests and the evolving nature of your sound, how do you see your music evolving in the future?

I’m pretty sure it’s going to take an even more electronic turn. I’ve been listening to a lot of deep house and techno lately, and I can tell that my upcoming releases are going to be more in that vein – with lots of electronic drums, long builds, transitions meant for clubs… I want to retain an aspect of organic playing (with keyboards and guitars), but let’s just say the foundation is going to evolve in that way.

What is the story behind your name?

The story behind my name is a play on two different aspects within my own self: the “ego”-self who is called Edgar, who loves to be the center of attention and to take over the stage, and the “Everyone” on the other side which is a reference to the fact we are all one in the bigger picture… the dissolution of my own ego if you will. Edgar IS everyone and in the end we can all commune with a passion for music
