‘Groovy bouncy mystery’ | Interview with ill fame x Boogrov

Ill fame teams up with Boogrov on “ob-1,” combining intriguing rhythmic patterns with sleek synth elements and ethereal vocal samples. Read our discussion below!

Describe your sound in 3 words

Groovy bouncy mystery

How did the two of you meet and start making music together?

We were making sound design for Atomic Heart game and all the chats of gear, soft. sound and music taste – what made them become friends working together

In the world of video game soundtracks, what are some of your favorite compositions that have left a lasting impact on you?

Cyberpunk 2077 for its bold approach of eclectic and combining, Doom (2016) for its brave energy, Stray for its atmosphere, Call of duty modern warfare 2 for combibg orchestral strings, war drums and super modern synth sounds

Let’s dive into “ob-1.” Could you describe the creative process behind this track and how your friendship influenced its development?

One day ill fame came to Boogrov’s place to try his “analog rytm” drum machine. In couple of minutes he made 137 bpm groove and then Boogrov played chords harmony with his “oberheim ob-6” and bass line with “Moog Sub-37”. Then ill fame cut and chopped chords and they played them also at “Dave smith prophet” with a kind of arpeggio. After the groove and chords were done, they decided to try vinyl sampling (vintage soviet plate) for a pitched guitar sound in breaks. Also they chopped previously recorded female vocal of their friend. The demo was completed. Next week they met at work where one of their colleagues, composer known as Zoanoid brought Moog DFAM and they together made patch for bassline in the middle of the song and then distorted it with modular unit called plasma drive. ill fame mixed all the stuff together and the final mastering was made by their friend A.Fruit

Which is your go to synth (analog or digital) when you start a project?

For ill fame its his Analog rytm what he decided to buy after he tried Boogrov’s, Moog for bassline and software Spire and Serum. Boogrov has a huge collections of hardware synth including moog, oberheim, korg, dave smith and many more, but the heart of his sound is his modular synthesizer box with a lot of various units

Favourite album of the past 3 years?

Floating points – “Crush”

Do you have an artist that you would describe as a hidden gem that we should know about?

More or less hidden gems are our friends BOP, Nuage, A.Fruit. Zoanoid and No Hot Water

Would you reveal each other’s funny habits?

Boogrov can be distracted from any important matters if you mention anything about patching module synthesizers and ill fame always drumming his fingers on all surfaces

Thank you!
