Describe your sound in 3 words

rhythmical, dreamy, visual

Tell us a few things about Pardon Me. What is the main idea behind it?

Pardon Me is an attempt to express an ambivalent feeling. A mixture of anger, frustration, melancholy and anticipation.

If this track captures the emotions preceding a breakup, which song would you choose to accompany you during the period of mourning?

I think you discover/hear songs differently during the period of mourning. Songs that you used to find cheesy suddenly trigger unbelievable feelings. Suddenly these songs describe your emotion and situation so well, as if they were just written for you. For me one of those songs was High Hope by Glen Hansard.

Your most personal and honest lyric?

I think Falling Consciously is quite honest and personal. But the song hasn’t been released yet.

Which artist, upon listening to their work for the first time, evoked such an overwhelming sensation that you believed you could never attain their level of skill or talent?

Quite a few.. There are the virtuoso who play their instrument so unbelievably well that it can be almost demotivating. There are many examples in classical music or jazz. In pop/rock, the band White Denim recently gave me this feeling when I heard them for the first time.
Then there were artists like Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin or James Brown… who could transport so much energy and feeling in their music. That passion and energy seems unattainable to me.
And then there are the original, commercially successful artists who have created something inspiring and new and influenced generations of artists. For me, the most unattainable are Jimi Hendrix, Radiohead and the Beatles.

If Pardon Me was a film, which film would that be?

Fascinating question. I often see a song as a movie. The development of the motif and the unpredictable obstacles and detours are very important to me. Honestly, though, no film comes to mind right now for Pardon Me. Maybe something between a Woody Allen and a David Fincher film?

What would you change in the music industry?

Honestly, I think it’s pretty cool that I don’t need big labels or studios to record and release my music. What bothers me is that most of today’s commercial songs are extremely overproduced and predictable. I wish that commercial music would become a bit more honest.

What is the story behind your name?

I am fascinated by the image of the traveling vagabond. Traveling doesn’t have to be physical. There is also the vagabond in my head or the vagabond in art.

Thank you!
